Langstone Harbour Cycle Route
This flat circular cycle route is perfect for friends and families with children who are comfortable riding for a couple of hours. There are plenty of opportunities to stop along the route to break the journey up, like picnic benches along the shoreline and a pub or two.

You can start anywhere on the loop, but the point where the ferry departs at Eastney (or Hayling Island) is best. Jump on the ferry for a few pounds, it only takes ten minutes to cross the harbour and adds a real sense of adventure and a good vantage point to spot local seals.

From the ferry landing on Hayling Island, pick up the Hayling Billy Trail, a former railway line turned into a scenic cycling and walking path. This gravel track runs north along the western edge of Hayling, offering open views of the harbour, salt marshes, and birdlife. The ride is peaceful, with occasional glimpses of the water and small inlets leading into the harbour.

At Langstone Bridge, cross onto the mainland and join the Shipwrights Way, a well-maintained path that skirts the shoreline. This section takes you past Langstone Mill Pond, a haven for wildlife, and past Farlington Marshes, a nature reserve teeming with wading birds and wildfowl. You can extend the route around Farlington Marshes if you wish.

As you approach Portsmouth, join the coastal path leading up the Eastern Road, away from the cars, into Eastney. The gavel is smooth and flat, having recently been re-done as part of the sea defence work
This 15-mile ride offers a mix of off-road trails, quiet roads, and stunning waterside scenery, making it a fantastic route for cyclists of all levels.
