St Michael’s Mount – OS Wallpaper Download December 2025
Located on the south coast of Cornwall, St Michael’s Mount is a striking tidal island crowned by a medieval castle and subtropical gardens, offering a unique blend of history and coastal beauty. Accessible by a causeway at low tide or by boat when the sea covers the path, simply walking to the island provides a magical experience. The surrounding coastline is perfect for walkers too, with the South West Coast Path delivering breath-taking views of rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and turquoise waters. It’s perfect for a frosty wander and a winter picnic with beautiful views of the Cornish coast. And while temperatures are starting to get a little colder, there’s no better time to get outside than in the winter.
This month’s OS Wallpaper image was selected by Philllip Nangle, one of our very own Air Camera Operators.
“St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall is one of my favourite places to visit during the festive season. There’s nothing quite like a crisp, sunny December morning spent walking along the beach and over the cobbled causeway to the island, followed by a warm Cornish pasty enjoyed while gazing out at the island. Just a short drive away, the neighbouring towns of Newlyn and Mousehole come alive with stunning Christmas lights illuminating their harbour, which are both well worth a visit. To round off the day, I love settling into the cosy atmosphere of the Ship Inn in Mousehole for a comforting drink by the fire.”
This imagery was captured by the OS Flying Unit, which plays a vital role in providing imagery to create many of Ordnance Survey’s products and datasets, from the iconic paper maps often gifted at Christmas, to the sat nav data that helps delivery drivers bring presents to your doorstep.

Using the downloaded wallpaper image
To save the image on a computer, right-click (or alt-click) and select ‘save target as’ or the equivalent for your browser. If you are not sure of the screen size, use the largest one.
- For most computers, right click the desktop and select ‘set wallpaper’ to change the wallpaper image.
- For iOS devices, select the image, press and hold on the image to ‘save image’, then go to Photos > Share > Set as Wallpaper.
- On Android devices, select the image, long press to ‘download image’ and then go to Wallpapers > My photos and select the image.
Did you know?
On Windows PCs you can save multiple wallpaper images to a single folder, and have your desktop background automatically change regularly by selecting that folder as the source.
