Foel Fenlli and Moel Famau by Hilary Pullen
This free OS Wallpaper or Teams background download is taken from the fabulous heather clad Foel Fenlli looking over towards Moel Famau, the highest peak in Bryniau Clwyd (The Clwydian Range). The heather in the Clwydian Range will soon be bright purple, the most spectacular time to visit this often overlooked range of hills in North Wales.
This wallpaper has been chosen by the brand new Get Outside Content Editor, Hilary Pullen.
I am based in beautiful North Wales and whilst I am a huge fan of all the popular and dramatic peaks in Eryri (Snowdonia), I often find myself in the Clwydian Range. Apart from the more popular Moel Famau you can find virtual solitude walking in this beautiful range of hills with over 20 peaks to explore and connect on your adventures. I’ve almost completed all of them and most of my routes including OS Map Links can be found here – Clwydian Range Walks.
I chose this picture of Moel Famau from Foel Fenlli as this month’s OS Wallpaper as I think it’s a perfect short walk and I really wanted to share the route with you all. If you find yourself in North Wales with an hour or so to spare and you want a quick family and dog friendly walk Foel fenlli is perfect. The car parking is easy, it’s not too strenuous (although the descent is fairly steep) and the best part is that you are turning away from the majority of walkers heading up the more popular Moel Famau.
Foel Fenlli is also packed full of history as it’s an ancient Hill Fort. For the best information about this possible Bronze Age Hill Fort head to www.clwydianrangeanddeevalleyaonb.org.uk
