Meet Tom Wake – Ultra runner, trail runner, adventure seeker, web developer, marketer, map lover, father
What drives you to spend time outside?
I love the freedom of being outside, exploring new places and the sense of adventure that goes with it. There’s nothing better than plotting a route on a map and heading out to take some new footpaths with the uncertainty of where you’ll end up!
Where are your favourite places to go?
Running in the fells of the Lake District and the Alps – Chamonix is a particular favourite, an outdoor enthusiast’s playground!
What is your favourite thing to do outdoors?
Trail Running – it’s a great way of covering a lot of distance in a short space of time and seeing places that you may otherwise miss. When not running I can be found hiking, cycling or out on my SUP.
Who inspires you and how?
As a keen trail and ultra runner my biggest inspiration is Kilian Jornet. The mountain runner has achieved so much at such a young age and I admire his sense of adventure and dedication to training. His photography in the mountains just adds to this inspiration.
What are your focuses this year to help people get outside more often?
I’ve spent a large part of the last year making trail running less daunting and more accessible for people in my local community. I want to continue to do this, making trail running education, accessible and easy for people to participate in by providing more workshops and sessions.
What are your 3 biggest life achievements?
