Five Classic West Country Winter Walks
Perhaps it’s the bright, crisp days, perhaps it’s the bracing winds, but winter makes walking in the West Country a real delight. Whether you’re looking for a blast of fresh air amid the festivities or have resolved to do more exercise, hiking the region’s coast paths and moors will put plenty of pep in your step. So we asked local Ordnance Survey #GetOutside Champion Belinda Dixon to come up with some routes that show the west off at its winter best.
3 great coastal circular walks in Devon
Cliffs, coves and impossibly pretty ports – the South West Coast Path draws many an excited hiker to western shores. But you don’t have to embark on the full 630-mile trail to revel in its glory. Because a wealth of day-long, circular walks will also put more than a little spring in your hiker’s step and a gleam in your eye. Devon-based Ordnance Survey GetOutside Champion Belinda Dixon outlines three of her favourite SWCP day trails.
South West Coast Path: 10 of the best spots
It’s a 630-mile adventure - the South West Coast Path stretches from Minehead in Somerset to Poole Harbour in Dorset. Surging around the end of England, it snakes through a World Heritage Site, a National Park, fishing villages, ink-black cliffs and utterly gorgeous bays. Here heading out for a hike also opens up surfing, kayaking, climbing, Stand Up Paddleboarding, wild swimming and barefoot beachcombing. England’s longest National Trail is an awesome place in which to GetOutside.
