South Downs Sunrise
There’s nothing quite like the quiet stillness before the world wakes up, the crisp morning air, the first light across the sky, and a sense of calm that comes with watching a new day begin.
The transition from twilight to sunrise is magical. As the night sky fades, a new light casts a warm glow over the landscape as the sun rises above the horizon. When golden hour begins, it’s truly breathtaking to witness the colours shift from those cool blues to golden hues, offering some of the most picturesque views of the iconic cliffs.
Cuckmere Haven is a perfect place watch the sunrise. So on a cold winters morning, wrapped up in my wool layers and waterproofs, I set off before dawn with my head torch on and my OS map route downloaded. After a short stroll, I settled into my ‘front row’ seat, sipping on a freshly brewed coffee to take in the first light of the day.
