What drives you to spend time outside?
The need to be surrounded by nature; the sights, smells, sounds and feelings that she inspires.
Where are your favourite places to go?
I love woodlands, wandering amongst trees, observing the natural world around me. I also love the jungle and the Arctic! These days, my dog (Layla) is the main driving force! She is responsible for getting my out so much more than what I used to. I also love the serenity of the Artic in winter and the madness of the jungles in the evenings.
What is your favourite thing to do outdoors?
My all-time favourite, as I get older, is to find a beautiful tree and light a small fire on which I have a kettle boiling water for a cup of tea, and lean back against the tree and read a good book.
Who inspires you and how?
My good friend Tim, on his weight loss journey. The dedication and commitment he has put into it, so that he and I can go climb mountains together is inspiring. What are your focuses this year to help people get outside more often?
I want to make people more aware of the natural environment around them and how much it has to offer. You don’t need to travel to amazing areas; your local area is just as amazing, you just need to be able to see it!
What are your 3 biggest life achievements?
Being physically fit after a major heart attack at 24. Royal Marines Commando. Being able to spend time in rain forests and the Arctic.

Live the moment.
