OS Wallpaper Download: November 2022

Originally set up to support the crucial fishing industries, the line is still in use by passenger trains operating between Glasgow Queen Street and Mallaig. In the summer, West Coast Railways operates The Jacobite steam train along the line, which is popular with tourists, both to ride and watch.

Around Loch Shiel you'll find a number of Corbetts¹ including including Beinn Resipol, Sgùrr Ghiubhsachain, Sgorr Craobh a' Chaorainnh and Beinn Odhar Bheag. The area is home to a number of rare birds as well as otters.

1: Corbetts are Scottish mountains that are between 2,500–3,000 feet (762–914 m) in height with a prominence over 500 feet (152m) from their surrounds. You can find them all on OS Maps as a Places set.

Using the downloaded image
