OS Wallpaper Download: December 2021 - ‘Winter Gate’ on Mam Tor, Peak District by Jermaine Reid
Mam Tor (or 'Mother Hill') is a 517m hill in the Peak District which provides great views over the surrounding countryside, summer and winter. You will find popular walking routes both over and around the hill, which has the remains of an ancient fort at the top.
The name comes from the landslip on the eastern side, which has created a number of small 'child' hills near the foot. As well as the bronze age fort, you will find a number of caves you can explore, including the Blue John cavern, a source of various types of ornamental fluor-spar, also known as Blue John.
