Raven Crag - Thirlmere
OS GetOutside Champion, Jack Anstey, takes us on a short, steep walk with some of the most rewarding and spectacular views the Lake District has to offer.
Meet Lara Debenham - Mountain lover, trail runner, yoga teacher and climber.
What drives you to spend time outside?
Nothing clears my mind better of all the day to day clutter than heading outside. The sense of freedom and contentment I get from heading up to the top of a mountain is second to none when I get to share the views with family and friends there really is nothing better!
Where are your favourite places to go?
I have recently moved to Snowdonia as North Wales is my favourite place to adventure in the UK.
What is your favourite thing to do outdoors?
My favourite activity is probably trail running as it required relatively little gear and can be done in rain or shine. I always try to find a new trail, route or peak so it always feels like an adventure.
Who inspires you and how?
Kilian Jornet and Emilie Forsberg are my biggest inspirations; they are so incredibly passionate about adventure and the mountains. They are always smiling and positive even through the most gruelling and toughest of challenges.
What are your focuses this year to help people get outside more often?
I am currently training to be a mountain leader and will be sharing my map reading and route planning tips on my Instagram (@larakateadventures). I will also encourage others to find their local trails for before or after work week time adventures and exploration!
What are your 3 biggest life achievements?
I really struggle with these types of questions! Most recently I completed the K42 Anga Marathon in Tenerife, it is 45km long with 2650m of elevation gain.. that was tough and something that felt near impossible a year before! I started my own company too, although very much in its infancy I have certainly started to learn what a challenge owning your own business is already! Finally a few years ago I took a major role in the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign which was a fantastic experience, it was great to play a role in such an exciting movement encouraging women of all different ages and abilities to take part in sporting activities!
3 words you live by…
Eat more chocolate ;)
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Excessive chocolate, nut butter and pancake eating.. but I don’t feel too guilty about it, life is too short to feel guilty about eating tasty things!Click to see all 100 GetOutside Champions
