Meet Freddie Bennett - Guinness World Record holder, endurance athlete, Haribo connoisseur.

What drives you to spend time outside?

I like to literally step out of my comfort zone. This doesn’t have to mean doing something extreme or scary, it’s just about doing something different. It’s so easy to get stuck in our routines and go to the same places, but I love nothing more than mixing it up and trying to explore somewhere different…you never know what you might discover!

Where are your favourite places to go?

I’m a sucker for a cinematic view and an amazing sunrise. So I often find myself stumbling up the hills of North Wales or Lancashire in the early morning gloom, only to be rewarded with the most majestic sunrise. This great on a clear day…not so fun if it’s cold and cloudy!

What is your favourite thing to do outdoors?

I must confess to being a bit of an adrenaline junkie, so I’m often running outdoors and trying to cover as much ground as possible (although I do love to stop and admire the views!). I’m always up for new adventures so if someone suggests any outdoor activity I’m always there!

Who inspires you and how?

Sir Ranulph Fiennes, because he has undertaken some seriously gruelling and challenging outdoor adventures, and no matter how tough life gets, he always finds a way.

What are your focuses this year to help people get outside more often?

My immediate focus is how we can get families active outdoors…whilst staying indoors! I want to focus on fun and imagination and hopefully inspire people to explore close to home. In the coming months, I’ll be encouraging people to try something different and literally take small steps outside their comfort zone

What are your 3 biggest life achievements?

Running 200 miles across the Sahara Desert and completing the world’s toughest footrace. Becoming a Guinness World Record holder as the fastest person ever to complete a marathon dressed as a fisherman….including wellies! Running 3,000 laps of my (very small) garden to complete a ‘lockdown marathon’

3 words you live by…

Anything Is Possible

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

I have a real sweet tooth! I love chocolates, sweets and cakes and see them as a perfect reward after a great day spent outdoors!
