GetOutside Champion: Phoebe Smith
Phoebe Smith likes to sleep wild - from caves to mountain tops, disused farmsteads and under giant boulders – if it's in a wild place she want to take her sleeping bag and bivvy and experience a wild night out.
Alan is an award-winning geography teacher, and author, Junior Vice President of the Geographical Association, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and Chartered Geographer.
He won the Ordnance Survey Award for excellence for his teaching in 2008, and the Tivy Medal in 2013. Alan previously worked, and wrote a fieldwork book, for the Geographical Association. He is a Primary Geography Champion, working as Head of Geography at King’s Ely school, and also created resources for numerous organisations and publishers.
His interests are exploring and photographing landscapes, before creating curriculum materials to encourage young people to explore (un)familiar places and spaces. This led to him co-creating the Mission:Explore series of books, which won awards for their engaging and inclusive approach to geographical investigation and outdoor learning.
